Iranian poetry salon

Take your seat in the salon as Yadollah Royaee, Asieh Amini, Seyed Mehdi Mousavi and Fatemeh Ekhtesari step up to the podium. Yadollah Royaee lives in France and is considered the father of Iranian new wave poetry. Asieh Amini has lived in Norway since 2010 and two of her poetry collections have been published in Norwegian. Seyed Mehdi Mousavi and Fatemeh Ekhtesari are Lillehammer’s new City of Refuge authors and we look forward to getting to know these two widely recognized authors better. The four authors represent different traditions and will read their own poetry, written in Persian, known for its suitability as a poetic language. Introduction by Fatemeh Ekhtesari.

Yadollah Royaee

Yadollah Royaee (1932) was born in Iran. He started to write poems at an early age. His political engagement made life difficult, and after beeing imprisoned he fled to Paris, where he has lived for the last 30 years. His voice is sentral in the new wave of Iranian poetry. More >

Asieh Amini

Asieh Amini is a poet, journalist and women’s rights activist from Iran. She has been a leading campaigner against the death penalty in her homeland. Between 2010 and 2012 she was the guest writer in Trondheim City of Refuge.  Today she lives in New York. More >

Fatemeh Ekhtesari

Fatemeh Ekhtesari is an Iranian poet. She is the current City of Refuge writer in Lillehammer.
